Accessibility and Disability Services Policy

iNovaCSU University is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive learning environment where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to participate fully in all aspects of the educational experience. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, iNovaCSU prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified students in all academic programs and activities.

The University encourages students with disabilities to self-identify and request accommodations through the University Accommodations Coordinator (UAC). While disclosure is voluntary, students seeking academic accommodations or adjustments must contact the UAC to initiate services. Students who are unsure whom to contact may reach out to their Academic Dean or Academic Advisor for guidance.

Definition of Disability

iNovaCSU follows the definitions set forth under the ADAAA and Section 504, which state that a disability includes any individual who:

  • Has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities;

  • Has a record of such an impairment; or

  • Is regarded as having such an impairment.

Students requesting accommodations must provide documentation verifying that their need for academic adjustments or other reasonable accommodations is based on a permanent or qualifying disability. Upon submission of documentation, the University Accommodations Coordinator will determine eligibility and the appropriate accommodations. Requests for continued accommodations must be renewed annually.

Institutional Responsibilities

As a private post-secondary institution, iNovaCSU complies fully with the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. In serving students with disabilities, the University shall:

  1. Prohibit discrimination in recruitment, admissions, and all educational activities based solely on a student’s disability.

  2. Provide reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities at no additional cost, unless such accommodations would impose an undue hardship on the University.

  3. Ensure equal access and participation in all educational programs and activities for qualified students.

  4. Modify academic requirements when necessary to ensure they are not discriminatory in effect, provided such modifications do not alter essential program outcomes.

  5. Inform students of available services, academic adjustments, and the contact information for the University Accommodations Coordinator at disabilityservices@inovacsu.edu.

  6. Provide written guidance on how to request services and accommodations.

Understanding Accommodations

Accommodations are defined as services, instructional adjustments, or modifications that provide equal access to learning opportunities for students with documented disabilities. These adjustments allow students to demonstrate mastery of essential course objectives without lowering academic or professional standards.

Examples of reasonable accommodations may include extended test time, accessible course materials, or assistive technology. For instance, a sign language interpreter may provide access to lectures and discussions for a student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The learning outcomes and expectations remain consistent for all students, ensuring fairness and academic integrity.

Post-secondary institutions, including iNovaCSU, are required to make reasonable academic adjustments as long as such accommodations do not alter essential program requirements or impose undue administrative or financial burden on the institution.
